5 Things You Should Be Doing Every Time A Cake Leaves Your Door

Put Business Cards In The Box

Guests will ask who made the cake. Make it easy for the host to give them your details.

2-4 cards tucked under the cake board is plenty unless they specifically ask you for cards to put out with the cake, in which case… load ’em up!

Brand Your Box Effectively

Plain white cake boxes are fine but how much more professional would your cake look with your logo and details on the box?

You don’t have to get custom boxes made, I have stickers printed that I put on every box before it leaves for its party.

My custom stickers are printed by Fast Labels; they are ridiculously good value for money and as fast as their name suggests… A quick, easy way to get your logo and details on every cake that you make.

Include Some Cake Care Advice

This can be verbal or typed but people appreciate advice on what they should actually do with the cake once they get it home… or even how to get it home.

It’s not uncommon for people to assume they should transport a cake on the car seat… the tilted car seat.

I have even heard of someone collecting a cake and flipping the box sideways to carry it under their arm!

The advice I give every time is to transport the cake in the boot or footwell of the car, store the cake at room temperature, not in the fridge, if there are any inedible supports in the cake, how to cut the cake in a grid pattern to get their portions, and how to remove any decorations they might want to keep.

Make Your Allergen Info Obvious

This is a UK based point. It is now law to have allergen information readily available for customers.

The best way to do this is to include a sheet with your cake that advises of all the allergens in that cake.

That way, if there is a party and a guest asks if there is gluten in the cake, your customer has your sheet they can give out instead of worrying about contacting you to find out.

Post A Photo

You haven’t got this cake to physically show anyone now so get some good photos and make sure everyone sees how awesome this cake is that you just made.

Post your photo after the party though- you don’t want to ruin the surprise!

Do you have any must-dos for when a cake is collected? Let me know in the comments below!
